| Summary: | The decision of the Economic Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to issue a volume in honor of professor Emeritus Stylianos Poulopoulos was appropriate. My contribution will be the foreign exchange development. I intend first to analyse briefly the theories concerned, second to stress the superiority of the psychological theory, third to deal with the open market policy of foreign currencies of the central banks in order to reduce the fluctuations of their foreign exchange value, fourth to compare the consequences of the fluctuating exchange rates and those foreseen by the classical theory of international trade and of international capital transfers. |
